:: Ok, its time to come clean.  Someone wrote me the other day asking what is going on with the FWGG and why pictures have not been posted. 

There are at present no future FWGG's planned.  NO, FWGG will not be sold.  NO FWGG will not be taken over by someone else.  NO, I am not saying there will NEVER ever be an FWGG event again.  I have in confidence told some public people already.  The staff knew this since FWGG 5.

First, a bunch of the pictures that were taken for some reason show up as files but can not be viewed copied or used. I got them on disk from someone else and they have not got me originals if they even have them. I have a few pics that I should post but... I just haven't.

What's going on? Well we yet again lost a venue. The owner of that place will not rent to us again, even though we left the place EXACTLY in the condition it was found. We even swept up and everything, like we always do. That was a big blow after we have spent soo much time looking for other venues. We thought..well if we downsize we can always go there. Well apparently not.

The other thing is a bunch of the staff decided to split ways and do other things. I was sure one of them would start their own party. That left me and a few very loyal people. I have a wife and daughter to spend time with and FWGG was getting in the way of that. I have also found there is more of a need for someone to help other parties and to create a site on how to do lan parties. Every bit of time I spend on FWGG is time I can't be helping other parties or working to get this other site to happen. I know, I know that is not what you want to hear but....that's the deal.

I have been meaning to put something up on the site explaining, but to be honest... I just couldn't bring myself to do it.  Through the many times I have sat down to post this.... well this is the only time the words made it to the screen.

Thank you to everyone that has supported the FWGG and its ENTIRE staff over the years.  We have met so many people and had so much fun in the LAN scene.  You will still see most of use around.

Is FWGG dead? Lets call it a deep hibernation. I wouldn't delete that bookmark just yet :?|

I think.  Well we finally got away from those @#$@# at well where ever we were.  I am not sure cause their name changes so much.  I think it was Hypervine.  Anyway, you may have noticed the site going up and down over the past week.  That is due to their STUPIDITY.  They told me we would have till Sept 5th to move the site, but they still took us down 2 times before then.  Man am I glad that is over.

On a positive note.  We are now hosted by NxTek.  These guys are old friends of mine and they run a top notch gig.  I do some design work for them time to time and would recommend their services.  Another positive is we are finally off of the two separate server BS.  We now have advanced server functionality (asp, access, sequel, etc) for the entire site.  Oh and a lot more room!!  This means Loose and I can go crazy with some ideas that we have been wanting to do.

If you find something not working on the site, please email webmaster@fwgg.org so we can track it down.  The site move went good, but I would be surprised if something didn't break.

Actually more then just updates, but complete functionality change.  Loosescrew has made the LPC automated.  Hosts can not add or edit their party at any time.  Not only that but Host and a few select people will be able to add news to the LPC right from any browser.  This should help keep the content fresh.  Head over there and check out all the new stuff.   O and if you are a party host, don't forget to go add your party in!  Click the LPC link banner on the left!

I have created a list of the servers that we expect for the event.  This isn't a limit.  It is just a list of those that I know about and of people who have requested IP's for servers.  Remember NO servers will be allowed at your table and you must check your server in and get an IP when you arrive.  This of course does not include you firing up your own non dedicated server.  We encourage people to play on the dedicated ones however as those will be on 100mb.  server list

:: seats : Well we have some spots opening up to people the waiting list.  Check your email if you are on the waiting list.  We have had like 6 spots open in the last day or so, and a couple more today.  One of the clans can't get all there people from the waiting list in...so they gave up their spots.  People on the waiting list will be notified about the open spots.  If you see your name in line... drop me an email and let me know you want the seat.

You can now see where people are sitting or log in and select your seats.  One of the unique things about our seating selection is you can change your seat as many times as you like.  As long as you can see an open seat, you can move to it.  We still reserve the right to move people for being stupid by selecting a seat right in the middle of a row.  Go to view seating link up top.

:: Virus / cheater Policy : In talking to a few of the other LAN hosts it seems that this virus / cheater policy (see 03.24.02 story), and our List O' Shame thing could become a Midwest LAN party standard.  In other words, imagine that after infecting the FWGG network with a virus you show up at Stompfest and have to serve an ADDITIONAL 30 min time out before you are allowed on the network.  How about if you cheat at LANWAR your nickname and picture are shown in the LOSER section of the shared data base of pics? 

Seriously? Yeah.  It is time for people to start taking responsibility for doing dumb things.  You might want to rethink your position on not running an anti virus proggy or about running that bot or wall hack!  Want to cheat?  DO IT SOMEWHERE ELSE.  I have ZERO... ZERO tolerance for cheaters.

:: Net Access :  FWGG 5 will be blessed with a fully uncapped cable modem!  Thanks to Comcast we will have theoretically, up to 10mb up and 20 mb down.  I doubt we will see all of that but it should be more then sufficient for chatting online or downloading patches.

Well Sat. was test day #1.  Time to take inventory, test all the equipment out, setup servers, yadda yadda...  We have another test day scheduled this Sat. just to make sure we have everything in order for you guys and gals.  As you can tell by the center pic of Zim, we work very hard to be prepared for you.

Virus Policy !!!  We have decided to institute the following virus policy.  This may be tweaked a little but here is how it goes.  ALL FWGG servers and staff computers will be scanned for viruses.  IF a virus hits our network it will have been brought in by NON-FWGG machines. So....If you have or spread a virus

• Your port will be shut off and you WILL NOT be allowed back on the network until your system is verified clean by an FWGG staff member.
• + You will get a 30 min time out
• + Your picture will be taken and posted on the list O' shame (see below)
• If you fail to comply or try to circumvent this policy you will be ejected with no refund.

Please note the addition of the > FWGG LIST O' SHAME < on the right.  This will become a link when and if we have dumb asses bring viruses into the party and or we can prove were cheating at the event.  Lest anyone think this is cool, it may come along with an un-refunded exit from the event!

How do I prevent this humiliation / inconvenience?

• DUH! Get Virus protection software, update it, and scan before you break down to come to the event.  If you can't afford Nortons or whatever, try this link for a free scan.  I have not used this service personally but I know many who vouch for it.
• Check for and install the latest critical updates for your OS!
• Turn off writable shares and use FTP for any sharing you may do
• Remove any software proggies you might have on your system that could set off virus programs. If you don't know what I mean by this, see us BEFORE you plug in your nic cable at the event.
• Ask for help during setup, BEFORE you plug in to the network if you are in the dark about stuff like this.  We won't make fun of you for asking...we will if you don't ask and then infect the network.

Yes you will SOON be able to select your own seat.  We wanted to wait till most of the seats were confirmed and paid for.  Basically it will go, staff, teams/clans **by team / clan tag in your profile not you attaching it to your name!**,  groups, general mayhem.  Details will be mailed.

Ok several of you anxious waiting list types, have emailed me concerning the payment or lack there of from others.  The confusion is my fault. Let me try to explain.

First, I have sent out a final warning mesg last night. I updated the list last night, although I have not picked up my mail today to see how many are in there.

The mistake I made was to not clarify that I meant 3 or 5 business days. I assumed everyone would catch on to that. I shouldn't have assumed. Pay Pal users who have to transfer funds, not using credit card or do not have a balance, must wait like 3 full biz days for completion.

I really didn't start counting till Saturday cause you can't mail anything on Friday night @ 10pm. lol   Keep in mind too that some didn't register till Sunday, so Monday would have been their start day. Maybe some confusion is coming from the way I count too?? I mean if you reg on Monday, that isn't day 1. lol Tuesday, end of business day would be 1, Wed 2, etc etc.  Anyway, next time I will be much more clear on this.

Several people have emailed and said it should be arriving. I have given them a "little" leeway. I understand the anxiousness for me to drop the hammer, but I hope you can appreciate my lenience with those who have contacted me right away. Those who just don't contact me will soon get the axe though : )

:: 05:17 PM : Welcome back Comcast!  Comcast Cable has officially re-pledged their commitment the FWGG gamers.  Yes, we are working on getting an internet connection for the event and it looks promising. 

If we do get a connection please understand it will most likely be enough bandwidth for added convenience, like downloading patches, and chatting with your pal's who are not at the event.   Please do NOT expect to play games on the net.  Were not sitting on an OC3 here folks.

:: 12:47 AM : Well this has been one hell of a weekend.  When registration opened we filled 50 seats in about 15 min.  As of now we are full and have some on the waiting list.  So about 36 hour to fill up.  Longer then I thought it would take but ...

I can not stress enough how important it is for you to keep signing up. You will not be charged unless you actually get a seat.   Many people have still not paid for their seat and there are sure to be some who find out they can not make it.  The better your position on the waiting list, the better chance you have of getting a seat.  According some other LAN's that have waiting lists, historically some people who are on waiting lists don't take seats when they do open....thereby increasing your chances again if you are on the waiting list actually waiting for an opening.

I don't plan on coming to 5 so why sign up or create an account?  Well cause to be honest I have been considering just doing 100 person parties only, with MAYBE one large one per year.  With all the building problems we have had, it would sure remove a lot of stress off of me to just do small ones and stop looking for a building that may or may not exist.  If however I see we have ?? 50-100 people on the waiting list, then I will press on in the search for a bigger building. 

I HATE turning people away or having friends not make it in....but if I don't know that you would seriously come, then I have no reason to not just do 100 person parties.  The side benefit of this is me being able to devote more time to the general LAN community.  Show me you want the large one back by registering for this event!

Well the automated timed reg thing was a little bumpy, but did do what it was suppose to do.  Only one person knew the time, not me I might add, and that time was randomly generated by some kind of script he wrote. 

I know this was rough on some of you but IT KEPT it fair and kept our server from crashing.  I think next time we will certainly shorten the time, but keep the cool auto refreshing reg page.  We may also change the color of that page or something cause I almost didn't notice it had changed. lol

:: 04:15 PM : !! Ok, ok ALRIGHT already.  lol   Registration will open for FWGG 5 on **FRIDAY**  between 8pm and 10pm.  Exact time to be determined by a friend of FWGG.  In other words, don't ask me or staff when it is going to be live cause even I don't know!  lol 

We have also set up a automatically refreshing registration page for all you F5 happy peeps.  In other words just open the register page and let it refresh itself.  When the mystery man flips on the registration page it will automatically refresh to the registration form so you can grab your seat : )  That is if your account is created.  No account, no register.

So hunter, how do I make sure I am on top of this when it goes live?  I strongly suggest hanging out on our IRC or Forums between 8-10pm on **FRIDAY**.  That will most likely be the first place any announcements of it being open will be.  Other then that, open up the FWGG registration page and let it keep refreshing itself till it shows you a form you can fill out.

Why do it this way.  Frankly, we feel so bad about having to turn ANYONE away.  We have struggle for over a year to keep from having to limit the event.  The FWGG gang and myself have met so many great people in the LAN community and we want you all to make it in.  In fact on more then one occasion we have been asked to make a *wink *wink special arrangement for some.  Unfortunately we have exactly 100 seats open outside of staff.  That's it...I can not magically poop seats.  This seemed to be the only fair way to do it.  Everyone of you have exactly the same chance of making it in as the next.  We hope you can respect our predicament and our decision to do it this way.

LooseScrew and I have made a tough last min decision.  We are going to completely purge the existing database and accounts.  Everyone will need to sign up with a new account.  Not a huge deal but thought you should know.  We just had way too much outdated info, duplicates, etc.  Existing accounts, if your email is correct, will be notified by email when we are ready.  The rest of you will have to watch the site here.   This has pushed back the opening of the forums for a couple more days.  Sorry : (

:: 12:55 am :  Welcome to the new FWGG!  8)  Well it still isn't completely finished however it certainly is live.  Over the past hour I have been moving the new site in and moving the old site out.  Along with that, fixing, deleting, cussing etc.

Although I am dead tired, I am also very stoked about the new site and the announcement that I will get to make later this morn.  I must admit though I am sad to see the old site go.  I just loved that site.  LooseScrew and I put soooooo much time into that bugger.  Ok well I couldn't kill it completely, lol.  For a short time, the old site will be there for one last look at www.fwgg.org/oldsite.  It WILL NOT be updated or anything though.

For many of you, this will be the first that you have really heard of our how2lan initiative.  This is a project that is very important to me.  Please go check it out, but also keep in mind that it is no where near finished.  I have so much just sitting here waiting to be added it is driving me crazy.  Ultimately though... after the announcement later today...you will understand why it has been slow moving along.

FWGG's Booth at the Computer show and sale...

Everything went pretty well at the show.  Mass quantities of thanks goes out to Mark from Locl.Net for hooking us up with the tables and booth.  We would also like to thank MarketProShows for their hospitality.  To everyone that stopped by the booth, we hope you got all of your questions about gaming answered and we encourage you to look for our next event.  We had only one disapointment.  Stone Computer was unable to provide the public systems : (   We still were able to show & tell people all about gaming and we even met some long time online buds.  <shouts to KillaG>

I would also like to thank all of the peeps we had their helping, well I mean gaming.  lol  We had a strong showing of FWGG staff, some friends, and our brothers to the south Rebo and Brizod of Stompfest.

FWGG to have Booth at Coliseum Computer show and sale...

Here we go again : )  We will have a booth and mini LAN exhibition at the Market Pro Computer Show and Sale, on Jan 26th and 27th.  This is going to be a lot like the one we did at Pentacon.  We will be playing games, talking to young and old about gaming, and singing the songs of praise for our sponsors.  Hmmm you know I just remembered something.  I didn't post the pics from Pentacon yet.  Doh!  Anyway thanks goes out to Locl.Net for providing the tables for us and to MarketProShows for inviting us in to promote gaming.

StoneComputer  will again be providing systems that people can sit down at and try games out on.  We should have some new games to try out too.  I just spoke with Virgin Interactive this afternoon and they are suppose to be sending us some of their hot new titles.  If the shipment can make it in time we will load them up so you guys can test them out : )

As many of you know, per newsletters I have sent out, we are still working on a complete redo of the site and of course FWGG 5.  Do not take the lack of news postings to mean nothing is happening.  In fact I will leak this out, and you heard it hear first, we will "most likely" have a smaller party in the spring just to fill the gap till we get this building thing figured out.  Please ..... guy's don't start hammering me with emails yet.  Nothing is golden yet and I will let you know asap.     "Medic!"  "I'm a Medic"  <grin>

FWGG has booth at Pentacon

The FWGG gang is putting on a small demonstration and display at Pentacon this weekend.  Pentacon is a large Role Playing convention held each year at the Grand Wayne Center, here in Fort Wayne.  Mainly we will be giving people a taste of what LAN parties are like, and demonstrating a lot of the newer multiplayer games.  We will of course also be talking to people about our sponsors, and how to get involved in computer gaming.

Thanks goes out to StoneComputer for providing some systems that people can sit down at and try the new games out on.  As always they are very supportive of FWGG and the gaming community.
